MURMURS - BEST PODCAST OR ONLINE AUDIO DRAMA NOMINEE 2021

OVER AND OUT - BEST USE OF SOUND NOMINEE 2021

It’s true! Murmurs, the supernatural anthology drama podcast to which I contributed last year, has been nominated for two awards at this year’s BBC Audio Drama Awards, presented by Radio 4. The series as a whole has been nominated in the ‘Best Podcast or Online’ category and my episode Over and Out has been nominated for Best Use of Sound! You’ll see the details of these nominations and all the other categories if you click on the button above, but due to what I presume is an administrative error, it seems that my episode’s Line Producer, David Devereux, hasn’t been included in the nomination. I can’t state adequately just how important David’s contribution was to the production and the distinctive sound of Over and Out - they’re even the person who suggested the device of using an Army radio as the episode’s hook in the first place! So thank you, David, and thank you to the judging panel at the Audio Drama Awards!

If you look at the full list of nominees you’ll also see a number of beloved friends and collaborators of mine listed in various categories, so I’d also like to offer my congratulations to Bafflegab Productions for Children of the Stones in Best Podcast or Online; to Andy Goddard, Natasha Hodgson, David Cummings and the rest for The Sink in the same category; to Zoë Tomalin, Charlie Dinkin and Benjamin Sutton for Seancecast in Best Scripted Comedy (Sketch); and to Gemma Arrowsmith for her involvement in The Lenny Henry Show and Newsjack, both nominated in that same category.

If it were possible, I’d like all of us to win! But sadly, that’s about as feasible as the awards ceremony going ahead as planned on the 21st March. Still, it’s a brilliant list where a lot of extremely talented people are getting the recognition they deserve, so congratulations and stay safe, nominees! And stay safe, all of us.
